"How do you figure out the right way to live your life?"
One Tiny Lie follows Livie as she enters her first year of college at Princeton. Livie is anxiety prone and scholastically-driven. Her pseudo-psychiatrist, Dr. Stayner, convinces Livie to attend a party and get drunk her first night at Princeton. This leads to Livie getting a tattoo as well as making-out with the hottest guy on campus, Ashton. Of course Ashton has a girlfriend, and even though Livie struggles to put their encounter out her mind, she finds herself meeting the guy she'd always imagined she would end up with. Livie must decide whether to follow the dream she'd built when her parents were still alive or find a new path.
I love K.A. Tucker's books. One Tiny Lie shows grow in Tucker's writing style. And I have to give her kudos for tackling characters with mental health problems in respectful and growth-focused ways. She has the tendency to say "you can't relate on another person to fix you--you have to fix yourself first" with her characters which I rarely see in romance based novels. Tucker also really succeeds at writing a character and developing their growth. Although this book only takes place over one semester of college, it seems to develop and grow at a pace which seems like a year or two instead of a few months.
**MILD SPOILERS AHEAD BEWARE** I love that Tucker shows women receiving pleasure without male characters expecting any in return. I can't remember if that was the case in Ten Tiny Breaths, but it certainly is in One Tiny Lie. There are three sexual encounters shown on page. The first two are solely focused on the female. The final one is actually glossed over more than I expected it to be.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this book to someone looking for a fun (and little bit serious) romance to read. I needed something like this as a breath of fresh air after finishing my first year of graduate school. I can't wait to pick up the next book in the series!
