Blogging Goals for 2014

Hello lovelies!!

It's almost a new year

but I've got some ideas on where I want this blog to go in 2014. So I made a list of ten goals which I'm going to share with you!!

1. Get commenting!!!

Something that I see a lot of in this blogging world is community. And I really want to be a part of it. I think the best way to do so, on my end, is to comment on other people's posts. So I'm going to work really hard at commenting on other's posts in 2014.

2. Get better at design.

I have virtually no skills at design right now. I'm always jealous when I look at other people's blogs and posts and they're always so beautiful and so well done.

3. Blog at least 3x a week

This isn't really a hard one. I just tend to lose focus of projects if I don't set specific goals. So I'm planning on posting on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Plus reviews whenever I get to them.

4. Finish 3 series.

This is really a simple goal, but I do have the tendency to just start a series and then not finish it. Not necessarily because I'm not interested, just because I get overwhelmed by how many books I'd like to read.

5. Read 100 books.

This is my goal every year, but this year, I'm going to really strive to meet it. The last few years I've been reading more stuff online (okay okay FANFICTION mygod it's so good), and I really miss reading physical books. So I'm really going to strive to meet this goal in 2014. Plus Anna (yep at Anna Reads, she's just so cool!) reads way over a 100 books, so I'm feeling a tad bit competitive now.

6. Read 1 book I own for every 1 new book or ARC

This stems from the fact that I have a ton of books which I own and would really like to read, but I also work at a bookstore and get ARCs from Goodreads rather frequently. So I set this goal in an effort to balance new books and old books.

7. Participate in a readathon.

I'm going to be honest. I really have no idea what this entails. But it sounds cool. So I'd like to do one in 2014!

8. Gain 5 followers.

I feel like this is a fairly reasonable goal. I just need a few people to actually follow along with this blog so that I have a little bit of an impetus to keep going. I don't need a ton of followers. I just need to know that I'm not just shouting into the internet void.

9. Reread 5 books.

Not that I always reread books or anything. I just really have a few books that I'd like to reread, and I feel like if I don't make it a "goal" I won't do it.

10. Pare down book owning.

I was already planning on doing this since I can get credit for my books at my work which I can then use to get new books! So this is just a goal that will be easy to check off.

11. Read a classic a month.

This is like my extra credit goal. I'd really like to read some of the classics I own, and/or have had on my reading lists since high school. So I'm going to try this. I figure it'll factor in pretty well with my read one I own goal.

So that's it! The things I'm planning for 2014. What about you? Do you have any reading goals? Or other goals?

Blarghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Hello lovelies. I'm feeling super overwhelmed by life since I'm doing Camp Nanowrimo and trying to move and find a place to live 2600 miles away. So that's my excuse for missing last week. But now you get two weeks in a row. So this week's theme (hosted as always by The Broke and the Bookish ) is... Top Ten Favorite Movies   (And I picked Scary Movies) I have a secret. Or I guess I had a secret. And that secret is that I love  scary movies. Like anything that plays on gross special effects or melting walls or sudden appearances--I'm totally down for it. (This has only back fired on me once--when I had a panic attack watching Saw 2--I don't wanna talk about it...) So in no particular order, movies that really impressed me with their scare factors: 1. Thir13een Ghosts -- there's this scene with a glass door that is ingrained in my brain.  2. Haunting in Conneticut -- aw man, this movie is sooo good. I actu

Why Should I Trust You?

Hello Lovelies!! It's my finals week, so I'm going to make this one quick.  This week's Top Ten Tuesday (by the Broke and the Bookish ) allows us to fill in the blank! So I will be bringing you... The Top Ten Books with Characters Who are Unreliable Narrators (AKA BIG OL' LIARS). I love unreliable narrators because you never know if they're actually being unreliable or not. Occasionally they tell the truth, but occasionally they lie. So here we go... 1. Nothing by Janne Teller 2. Liar by Justine Larbalestier 3. Fortunately, the Milk by Neil Gaiman 4. Finnikin of the Rock by Melina Marchetta 5. Don't Look Back by Jennifer L. Armentrout 6. Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein 7. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte 8. The Princess Bride by William Goldman 9. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas 10. I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson Many of these books feature the unreliable characters as side characters and not main charac

More Diversity in Your Book Diet

Hello Lovelies! As usual Top Ten Tuesday is brought to you by the lovely people over at The Broke and the Bookish . Today's topic is Top Ten Books for People Who Like X, and I'm going to go with... Top Ten Books for People Who Like Diversity Thanks to the efforts of groups like We Need Diverse Books, diversity is having a resurgence in young adult and children's books. For the last couple years, I have been trying to read more books with diverse characters or by diverse authors. (Diverse in this respect includes race, sexuality, gender, and disability). I haven't endeavored to challenge myself to only read a certain type of book i.e. only those by women of color or anything that isn't by a white heterosexual male, but I try to be extra aware of the characters and ask myself if they actually are white (sometimes the text doesn't say it, sometimes people just assume it!) and if being white is necessary for the character or not.  But here are my top t
